After the nominees for the ‘2010 Golden Disk Awards’ were revealed, music fans began noticing that two ‘unofficial’ bands were added to the “Rock Awards” category.
‘The Qualification of Men Band‘ was actually created from a mission challenge on KBS 2TV’s “Happy Sunday – The Qualification of Men.” Considering its origins, many music fans commented, “How could a band made up of variety show gagmen and actors be nominated for the Golden Disk?” and “Their challenge was a meaningful one, but regarding them as a real band is comedic.”
‘Come Back Madonna Band‘ is also facing a similar controversy, as the band is a virtual band fromSBS’s drama, “I Am Legend.” The band consists of actors Kim Jung Eun, Jang Shin Young, Hong Ji Min, and Jyuni. Their song, “I Am Legend,” was featured in the drama’s OST album as well.
Netizens expressed their outraged opinions about the inclusion of fictional bands with “Korean rock has died” “Did they nominate them to make us laugh,” and “Are they factoring TV viewer ratings into their standards now?”
Representatives of Golden Disk clarified, “Such a situation occurred because digital sales, and not only album sales, are factored into the selections.”
